Millions of benefits cheques are distributed nationwide by the US Social Security Administration (SSA) each month.
Who gets Social Security checks in the US?
Those receiving retirement or survivors benefits, those participating in the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) program, and those qualified for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) are beneficiaries of the SSA’s main Social Security programs.
The SSA is getting ready to start February payments after submitting all checks for benefits under the aforementioned schemes in January 2025.
How much do Social Security recipients get?
The average monthly income of Social Security is $1,976 for retired workers, who made up around 70% of all recipients as of December 2024.
The average monthly payout for Americans receiving survivors benefits is $1,832, while the average monthly payment for disabled workers on SSDI is $1,580.
In contrast to the programs previously described, SSI is needs-based rather than contribution-based, and the highest monthly payment for an individual beneficiary is presently $967.

When will February 2025 Social Security payments be made?
Payments for February will be sent to SSI beneficiaries one day early. SSI payments are typically sent out on the first of the month, but if the month starts on a weekend or holiday, payment is sent earlier.
The SSA will issue checks for this program on Friday, January 31 because February 1 is a Saturday.
Because March begins on a weekend, SSI checks will be sent out early on Friday, February 28.

survivors benefits
As part of a staggered system that bases a recipient’s payment date on their birthday, the majority of other Social Security recipients will get their benefits on one of three Wednesdays in February. The following is the schedule:
Wednesday, February 12: Those born on the first through the tenth of the month
Wednesday, February 19: Those born on the eleventh to twentieth day of the month
Recipients born on Wednesday, February 26: Those born on February 21–31
Any there exceptions to this Social Security payment schedule?
Indeed. Regardless of their date of birth, recipients of retirement, disability (SSDI), and survivors benefits who began receiving checks prior to May 1997 are always paid on the third of the month.
The payment date for these beneficiaries is Monday, February 3, 2025.
