By: Phillip P-Mac McGruder @ChiefsFocus I am back from Washington DC. Glad to be part of the 2022 Disability Policy Seminar Conference last week where I got to go to the US Capital building with my fellow members of the KU LEND program to share our personal stories and talk about bills that help members of the Disability community like myself. It was a great time. People make fun of what i have to say or how i say it simply because i’m autistic. These people can say they did not know but in fact it’s been public knowledge for a long time. it shows you what type of people they are. My autism does not effect my intelligence nor my ability to research and understand the game or how it works. I was not going to allow some negative fans especially from other accounts within our own Kingdom{you know who you are} make me feel bad about an article that I wrote referring to the possibility of the Chiefs landing James Bradberry. I said possibly, potentially in others words, maybe it’ll happen and it could still happen. Things Change in a split second. If the article stated, we are signing Shady McCoy and will be announced on Sunday Night, and was exactly on point as Jp did prior to anyone then i could understand the confusion. The Great part about getting information is, we know if the Chiefs are talking to someone from the start, unlike others that get info in rotation and or from someone who gets it that way. They have no clue what the Chiefs are doing day to day. This is proven by the non existence of reports from those outlets on most every player. This is not for bragging rights or anything of that nature. It is because the absolute disrespect most of these outlets have for others. If we know someone has true information we tag them in any tweet we put out. They know what we put out on the podcast because we know they listen or have someone else listen, ( we’ve been told by very connected individuals they use our wording verbatim} or in conversation’s on Social Media. Or our Spaces we have done and they join to get what they can from the little we say about what we truly know then post it the following days as if they had this info prior. Its integrity, and that is what we strive for. We care about the reams success and who we can and cannot get because of outlandish tweets that can jeopardize the acquisition of players, lets face it, no one wants us to get better! Last I’ve heard, Bradberry is flip flopping back and forth on rather he wants to stay with Giants with a new deal or not. He flip flopped on the Chiefs to some degree deciding he now wants more up front money to come here The four year deal offered to him was a concern, as Veach does so well, he backloaded the contract to years 3-4 and was agreed upon according to sources. Prior to this, the trade offer had been changed three times with the Giants, that was finally settled, for now.Now we don’t know what will happen, we shall see. I have heard that 2019 Defensive Player of the Year, CB Stephon Gilmore’s price has dropped and he still has interest in playing for the Chiefs. I also hope we bring back the Landlord who is down in his Alma mater, LSU helping those student athletes out. Again we shall see and in the meantime, I am writing my preview of what to except from the Chiefs in 2022. This preview is series and I’ll start with a preview of what our offense will look like with the recent signings and shocking departures. In 2022, Mahomes without Tyreek: Mahomes will have Travis Kelce, Juju Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and Mecole Hardman stretching defensive backfields impossibly thin leaving them mathematically incapable of committing enough defensive backs to stop all four of those elite pass catchers. The Chiefs going to be a very balanced team on offense, expecting to rank top 5 in passing and rushing. Even if opposing defenses might contain Kelce, Smith-Schuster, MVS, and Hardman (unlikely, but possible) they still will have to find ways to contend with Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Jody Fortson, Josh Gordon, and of course the omnipresent threat of a deep strike to a potential rookies available in this NFL like Treylon Burks, Jameson Williams, Chris Olave, Skyy Moore, Christian Watson, Calvin Austin III, Velus Jones, or Kevin Austin. JuJu: https://youtu.be/ JuJu Smith-Schuster will not only be productive, he will be an integral asset to the Chiefs’ offense as a third-down maestro, with a penchant for series-extending and game-changing highlight reel catches. His presence as a reliable go-to receiver for Mahomes will ease pressure off of Kelce, who will routinely be expected shadowed with double and triple teams. Mecole Hardman stretches the field vertically, Smith-Schuster would provide a dangerous underneath receiving target. The Chiefs new field-stretching deep threat. Marquez Valdes-Scantling played in 11 games last year and had 26 catches for 430 yards and 3 touchdowns. In 2020, Valdes-Scantling had 33 catches for 690 yards and 6 touchdowns. Both seasons resulted in Aaron Rodgers winning back-to-back MVPs. Wide receiver Josh Gordon had only 5 catches and one of them went for touchdowns. He was heavy under utilized last season but with a full off-season with Mahomes, Josh Gordon will remind people before there was Gabriel Davis there was Flash Gordon. MVS: https://youtu.be/ItzYCEb- Mahomes will be largely tasked with finding the receiver that isn’t blanketed, and if the pass play he wants isn’t there then he should use his next option, scramble and buy time or check down to Kelce (if he’s not going deep on certain routes) or any number of solid and emerging options like Clyde Edwards-Helaire, RoJo, Fortson, Gordon and so on. That much receiving talent would almost always ensure a favorable matchup for Mahomes to throw to and if it isn’t there he could move outside the pocket until he finds something he likes. Rojo: https://youtu.be/ Speaking of the running backs, I feel like we’ve got 1A (Ronald Jones) and 1B (Clyde Edwards-Helaire). Both of those guys we’ve got a ton of confidence in. They will lead a proven backfield. Imagine if we had Rojo on the 2020 roster instead of LeVeon Bell and Darrell Williams, Clyde and Rojo would’ve combined for 1,781 yards and 11 touchdowns. That’s 481 yards more and 4 more touchdowns combined than Bell and Williams put together in 2020. We’d not only have the best the passing attack but also we’d have a Top 5 rushing attack. This backfield is loaded. CEH: https://youtu.be/ You also can’t forget that the entire offensive line from last year — Orlando Brown, Joe Thuney, Creed Humphrey, Trey Smith, Andrew Wylie and Lucas Niang — returns. This could be the best offensive line in the league and the run and pass game should benefit greatly from it. With this offensive line, both Jones and CEH could possibly run for over 1,000 yards and each score around 10 TDs. The Chiefs offense is going to be extremely potent, no matter which running back is at the helm. And if that isn’t not enough that the 2022 offense could also supplement these players with running backs as receiving threats and even bring in ? as a deep threat (decoy or otherwise) to stretch out the defense vertically. This deep threat everyone has their heart set on is most certainly not DK MEtcalf. As Chiefs Focus has been reporting for well over a month now, Seattle has no interest in trading DK. This doesn’t mean they will not Change their minds but with a very uncertain quarterback situation they will need the best to help whoever they decide on. In short, the passing game will have more than enough weapons and options no matter what the opposing defense will throw at them. In short it we will have too much talent to contain and all we need is the best Coach and the best QB in the NFL that has a hyper-competitive mindset to make the whole thing run. You know Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes are reasons we will still remain the best in the NFL. With a confident arm and that incredible elusiveness in the backfield, Mahomes can still do it all with the backyard playing style that reminds everybody football is supposed to be fun.
