The Kansas City Chiefs made 10 picks during the 2022 NFL draft and will look to sign several other contributors during college free agency, adding an influx of first-year talent to the roster.

While the Chiefs selected Western Michigan wide receiver Moore was met with massive approval among not only certain sections of Chiefs Kingdom, but the response of the draft experts especially from Pro Football Focus to the pick was generally far more positive even calling the pick a STEAL! But in reality, how fast will rise to become the Chiefs top receiver? I

n this article, I will explain how Moore fits and his potential outlook this season and how the youngster could be one of the biggest potential draft-day steals of 2022.

Mini Scouting Report

More than anything, Moore’s speed (4.41 40-yard dash), and separation simply stand out. His ability to stretch the field was evident in college. Some say, If Moore wasn’t just 5-foot-10, teams probably would be more interested but Veach struck gold. He caught 171 passes in three seasons and last year notched 1,282 yards, as well as catching 10 touchdowns. His yards per reception in the last three seasons were noteworthy: 15.7, 15.5, and 13.6, respectively.

PFF gave him a 91.8 overall grade, which happens to also be his receiving grade for the 2021 season. That’s noteworthy because it’s top among wide receiver prospects, eclipsing the likes of the 8th overall pick, Atlanta’s

Drake London and the 16th overall pick, Tennessee’s Treylon Burks. His vertical was 34.5 inches, along with a broad jump of 125 inches. If his physical abilities weren’t impressive enough for the scouts, Moore’s hands received plenty of spotlight at the Combine: measuring 10 and a quarter inches.

Those hands certainly served him well in his collegiate career, having only dropped six passes in his run at Western Michigan. As far as where he lined up in college, Moore accounted for 252 snaps in the slots and 567 outside wide.

When looking at Moore, the other thing that stands out to me is his route running. Great route runner with very good hands. Something we haven’t seen since Jeremy Maclin. Maclin, who worked with head coach Andy Reid in Philadelphia from 2009 through ’2012.

He rejoined Reid in Kansas City in 2015 to provide Alex Smith with a legitimate No. 1 receiver, posting a career-high 87 catches on 128 targets for 1,088 yards. 27 of those receptions and 6 of his 8 touchdowns came from the slot. Maclin is great inside because he understands the specifics of advanced route concepts and he’s tough over the middle.

That’s what Moore can do well at and he will remind the Kingdom so much of what Maclin brought. With JuJu and Skyy, it’s like having Dwayne Bowe and Jeremy Maclin catching passes from Mahomes.

How does he fit with the Chiefs?

Moore is going to flourish with the Chiefs. He certainly has many of the important traits that make an NFL receiver, such as the breakaway speed with remarkable separation, quickness, solid route-running, and those notable hands.

With shiny new weapons on the field like JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and the leader of that receiver room, Mecole Hardman with his mind on shutting up his critics, you’re going to see Moore fit very well immediately in the short and intermediate zones like Maclin.

He is also a deep threat you have to account for. With 4 receivers, pick your poison. He will understand the spacing in Big Red’s system, he has the ability to beat man coverage or settle into zones underneath, and the Chiefs will move him all around the formation as the Z-receiver in Reid’s offense. Moore’s skill set gives the Chiefs another legit receiving weapon that fits the type of offense Andy Reid wants to run with Patrick Mahomes.

Conclusion

With the kind of skillset Moore brings to the table, as well as with the impressive plays he put on tape, he is without question a steal. I see Moore leading the Chiefs in catches and touchdowns by his second or third season in the league.

There are already so many talented young wide receivers in the league that it’s hard to project Moore as a definite Pro Bowler or All-Pro player, but I do think he will be putting up those kinds numbers by that time as well. I wouldn’t be surprised if had a Ja’Marr Chase type of season and exploded onto the scene right away.

Moore is not going to be Tyreek Hill, However, Moore is going to be a really exciting player right away from the Chiefs in 2022. With the Best Coach leading the way and the Best QB throwing him the football, Moore will make an early impact in Kansas City and the 31 teams will be wondering why they passed on the talented player just because he’s small, and looking back probably slapping themselves. While Brett Veach is saying to himself,” The Skyy is the Limit.”
