Today is Kansas City Chiefs legendary defensive linemen, Tamba Hali’s birthday. His birthday marks a great time to break down his astounding career.
Tamba was born in Gbarnga, Liberia. Due to a Civil War, Hali’s mother sent him to the United States at the age of just 10 years old to live with his father. From there, Tamba worked to become an NFL caliber player. He felt going pro was the best way to make enough money to become reunited with his mother.
Tamba went on to play at Penn State University. While there, he went on to become an All-American and was named the Big Ten Defensive Linemen Of The Year in 2005.
Hali then went on to be drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs 20th overall in the 2006 NFL Draft.

Tamba went on to play 12 years for the Chiefs. Through those 12 seasons, Hali played in 177 games. In those games, he racked up 596 total tackles, including 105 tackles for a loss, 89.5 sacks, and 33 forced fumbles.
Throughout his career, Hali became a 5x Pro Bowler, 2x NFL Second Team All Pro, and was named to the NFL Top 100 list 5 times, being ranked as highly as 34th overall.
Hali retired with the second most sacks in franchise history, only behind Hall of Famer Derrick Thomas. Tamba was elected into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2021. He will become NFL Hall of Fame eligible in 2026.
Today, Tamba is regarded as one of the greatest Chiefs players of all time. His hardwork paid off and he was eventually reunited with his mother. Hali could very well become a first-ballot Hall of Famer once he is eligible. He will go down as one of the most dominant NFL players to ever do it.
Congrats to the legend on a great career and Happy Birthday from Chiefs Focus!
