4.7 earthquake strikes Northern California’s Lake County on New Year’s Day

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.7 occurred on New Year’s Day in Lake County.

According to officials, the earthquake occurred at 6:34 p.m. in northern Sonoma County, roughly 2.5 miles northwest of Cobb and 5 miles north of the Geysers.

The North Bay, which includes Lake, Sonoma, Marin, Napa, and Solano counties, was the main area affected by the earthquake, according to accounts from users of the USGS website. There were reports of light shaking as far away as the South Bay and San Francisco.
