After a shootout with plainclothes San Jose police officers last week, four individuals have been taken into custody on charges of attempting to kill.

In relation to the shootout that occurred on the evening of January 20, police said on Tuesday that Edward Ruiz, 21, Gabriel Olmos, 21, Robert Cesena, 37, and Emilio Macias, 22, had been taken into custody.

Paul Joseph, the police chief, stated in a statement, “Last week I said all those responsible will be held to account for this despicable act of violence, and I stood by my word.” “Thanks to the quick actions and around-the-clock investigative efforts of our Homicide Detectives, and our Gang Investigations Unit Detectives and Special Operations who worked tirelessly on this case, we now have the suspects in custody, awaiting their fate from the justice system.”

When the four suspects arrived, the plainclothes cops were in an unmarked car that had stopped at a red light at McLaughlin Avenue and McLaughlin Court, according to an initial investigation. According to the police, the suspects appeared to be inciting a fight and displayed their weapons.

Soon after, the police requested assistance from uniformed officers and pulled over close to Melbourne Boulevard and McLaughlin Avenue. According to the police, the suspects abruptly turned around and headed in the direction of the cops.

According to police, one of the suspects fired, hitting the unmarked police car several times. One of the plainclothes officers exited the car and fired back in retaliation.

According to the police, the suspects quickly left the area. The shooting caused the officers’ car to become dysfunctional.

There were no reported injuries.

After the incident, homicide investigators were able to generate multiple leads and locate a potential suspect vehicle. On Thursday, detectives acquired arrest and search warrants after identifying all four suspects.

Cesena was detained in San Jose, Macias was arrested in San Francisco, and Olmos was captured in Merced on the same day. Authorities found Ruiz in Gilroy on Saturday and took him into custody.

All four individuals were charged with several offenses, including attempted murder, and were taken into the Santa Clara County Jail.

Mayor Matt Mahan declared, “These suspects tried to take a life, and now they’ve lost their freedom,” “I’m grateful to our police department for proving once again that with crime comes consequence in San Jos .”

All four suspects are being held without bond, according to jail records. Ruiz will next appear in court on Wednesday, and Olmos will next appear in court on Tuesday.

The department’s homicide unit’s Detective Sgt. Barragan or Detective Harrington can be reached by phone at 408-277-5283 or by email if you have any more information on the case.
