After allegedly causing a 4-year-old kid under her care to sustain potentially fatal injuries, a Texas mother was charged with child injury.
After posting a $100,000 bond, Tameria Barnett, 30, was released from Houston’s Harris County Jail; however, the small kid she is suspected of harming is still in serious condition in the hospital. According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez on X, formerly Twitter, the child was the daughter of Barnett’s friend who is currently behind bars.
Gonzalez said homicide investigators were looking into the case because of the child’s severe injuries. Barnett was taken into custody and charged with child injury on November 29. Barnett acknowledged in probate court that she repeatedly [hit] the girl with her fists and a belt, according to KHOU, a local CBS affiliate.
Since the girl’s mother was imprisoned in September 2024, Barnett had been taking care of her.
Barnett paid a $100,000 bond and was released from Harris County Jail. On December 2, she will appear in court again.
