For a crucial game against Green Bay this week, the San Francisco 49ers are hoping that great tight end George Kittle will return, but they are unsure if star pass rusher Nick Bosa will be able to play.

After holding a late lead and putting San Francisco’s playoff aspirations in jeopardy, the 49ers (5-5) lost to the Seattle Seahawks 20–17 last week without Kittle or Bosa playing. It was their third loss of the season.

Despite missing the entire game due to a hamstring injury, Kittle returned to practice on Wednesday, albeit in a restricted capacity, and stated that he was certain to play against the Packers on Sunday.

The Niners were restricted to their fewest yards (277) since Week 6 of the previous season at Cleveland, and they tied their season low in points with Kittle out.

Due to injuries to his left hip and oblique, Bosa abandoned the game in the third quarter. He already had a similar ailment on his right side, which he said hurt the most when he tried to play. Bosa hinted that he would play on Sunday, saying on Wednesday that his left side is even worse but that he is improving.

His words, “It gets better every day,” “We’ll see. We’ll find out because it’s definitely too early to make a decision either way. We have a few of days.

After wasting games against the Rams in Week 3 and the Cardinals in Week 5, Bosa’s absence was a major factor in San Francisco’s most recent blowout advantage.

When Bosa was injured, Seattle was scoring six points on five drives and averaged 3.6 yards per play. After then, the Seahawks scored two touchdowns on their last three drives and averaged 6.3 yards per play for the remainder of the game.

After losing the Super Bowl the previous season, the 49ers had little room for error if they were to return to the playoffs. The loss to the Seahawks put them in a three-way tie for second place in the NFC West, one game behind first-place Arizona.

“Obviously, you don’t want to be down and feel sorry for yourself, but obviously you don’t want to act like nothing’s wrong,” Bosa stated. “I believe we are aware of the task at hand and that we must complete the games. It’s easy to claim that we’re three or four plays away from being an 8-2 club, but the fact that we’ve come extremely close in the majority of our losses only serves to demonstrate that we’re as good as anyone else if we can play better football throughout the game.

In other injury news, quarterback Brock Purdy did not throw any passes during the open portion of practice due to a right shoulder injury sustained in Sunday’s game. Coach Kyle Shanahan, however, stated that he anticipated Purdy’s ability to play on Sunday.

In order to give his Achilles tendinitis, which kept him out of action for the first eight games of the season, running back Christian McCaffrey skipped practice on Wednesday.

The star left tackle Due to an ankle injury that held him out of practice for the entire previous week, Trent Williams was also given a day off.

NOTES: LB DT Kevin Givens (groin) and Tatum Bethune (knee) did not practice on Wednesday either. In his first practice since the death of his 1-year-old daughter on October 28, CB Charvarius Ward was limited. Shanahan stated that he would not know whether Ward would be able to play until later in the week. Additionally limited were OL Jon Feliciano (knee) and WR Jacob Cowing (concussion protocol). DL Jonathan Garvin was added to the practice squad by San Francisco.
