The San Francisco 49ers’ Brock Purdy, who has already missed a game due to an injury to his throwing shoulder, only managed one short pass during the open portion of practice.
With the exception of one brief pass to Jordan Mason, Purdy spent the most of Wednesday’s practice exposed to reporters, either watching or making handoffs.
On November 17, during a loss to Seattle, Purdy injured his shoulder. Last Thursday, he attempted to throw during practice, but was unable to do so due to right shoulder pain.
He was able to throw light on Monday, but he missed a loss to Green Bay. As the Niners (5-6) get ready to travel to Buffalo on Sunday night, his status for this week is still uncertain. Brandon Allen, the backup quarterback, will take over if he is unable to play.
There are other important San Francisco players coping with ailments besides Purdy. After missing last week’s game, defensive end Nick Bosa and left tackle Trent Williams are still out for practice on Wednesday.
Williams, who has a left ankle ailment, was moving around the locker room on a scooter. Bosa has been sidelined due to oblique and left hip issues.
Bosa stated that he made progress over the week off and expressed his ambition to participate in individual drills later this week. Bosa would not rule out playing on Sunday.
Bosa remarked, “It’s feeling a lot better,” “I still have to recover before I’m prepared to leave. I’ll learn a lot more in the coming days, and this week will be significant.”
In addition, linebacker Fred Warner disclosed that he has been battling an ankle fracture since Week 4 against the Patriots and is making every effort to cope with the discomfort while playing through it.

Christian McCaffrey, a running back who missed the first eight games of this season due to Achilles tendonitis, has been able to play but isn’t back to the form that helped him win AP Offensive Player of the Year in 2023.
In three games since returning, McCaffrey has rushed for 149 yards, which is a substantial improvement above his 5.4 yards per carry from the previous season. He is certain, nevertheless, that he can return to playing at his typical level.
I questioned Christian McCaffrey about his reluctance to leave the field and the decreased usage of Isaac Guerendo and Jordan Mason. This is his reply. This tweet, #FTTB|#49erspic, is located at D7nRpM0hcV.
“When you lose and maybe you don’t jump out on the stat sheet, your failures are highlighted,” he stated. “I’m happy I’m out here playing football and I just know with time it will come.”
Although there hasn’t been much space for McCaffrey to run in recent weeks, coach Kyle Shanahan stated that he has appreciated what he has seen from the player. Shanahan, however, stated that it takes time to recover after McCaffrey’s nearly nine-month absence from practice.
“Guys who miss offseasons and miss training camp, usually it takes them a little bit of time at the beginning of the year to get back into how they were the year before, let alone missing half the season also on top of that,” said Shanahan. “Christian is doing a fantastic job, in my opinion. However, it is completely ridiculous to expect him to return in Week 8 after being unable to perform for the previous nine months or whatever, and to simply be in MVP form.”
After injuring his Achilles tendon during the Super Bowl, linebacker Dre Greenlaw participated in his first practice. Before he can play, Greenlaw will probably need to practice for a few weeks.
