5-Year Prison Sentence for Abuser: The Shocking Court Ruling!

5-Year Prison Sentence for Abuser: The Shocking Court Ruling!

In Williamsport, Pennsylvania, a man named Shaheed Tariq Gindraw, aged 37, was sentenced to five years in state prison for his involvement in a domestic violence case.

During the sentencing at the Lycoming County Courthouse, Gindraw accused the prosecutor of racism, causing a stir in the courtroom.

This incident followed his conviction for the assault of a woman that took place in December 2023.

The victim of the assault asked Judge William Carlucci to be lenient with Gindraw, saying that the situation had been exaggerated during the trial.

Despite her request, Judge Carlucci expressed his doubts about Gindraw’s understanding of the severity of his actions, stating, “I don’t think you get it,” before handing down the sentence.

The judge ruled that the five-year prison term would apply to the first-degree aggravated assault charge, with additional sentences for burglary, criminal trespassing, and criminal mischief to run concurrently.

This means Gindraw could face up to a maximum of ten years in prison.

The incident that led to Gindraw’s conviction occurred on the evening of December 26, 2023, when he visited his ex-girlfriend’s apartment in Williamsport.

A dispute broke out over Gindraw attempting to take their child from the residence.

In the heat of the argument, Gindraw grabbed the woman by her hair, causing her to fall. He then proceeded to punch and kick her before fleeing the scene.

Despite being warned to stay away from the property by the manager, Gindraw returned to the apartment later that night.

When the victim refused to let him in, he broke down the back door and attacked her again, hitting her twice in the head.

Witnesses, including the landlord and the victim, testified about the damage to the door during the trial.

During the hearing, Judge Carlucci labeled the attack as a clear case of domestic violence.

Police officers who responded to the 911 call saw Gindraw striking the woman and attempting to escape. He ignored their commands and fled the scene, which led to further charges.

Prosecutor Pheobe Yates requested a ten-year sentence for Gindraw, stating that his actions showed no intention of cooperating with law enforcement.

Despite the judge’s decision to impose a five-year sentence, Gindraw is still required to pay court costs, submit his DNA for the record, and serve one year on state parole upon release.

During the sentencing, Gindraw lashed out at the prosecutor, accusing her of being racist and biased against him.

His attorney tried to calm him down, advising him to stop speaking. As part of the defense’s attempt to seek a lighter sentence, they presented certificates showing that Gindraw had completed several self-improvement programs, including anger management courses, while in county jail.

Gindraw will be credited for the 282 days he has already served since his arrest. Despite the defense’s efforts to highlight his progress, the judge made it clear that the gravity of his actions warranted a significant punishment.
