In the San Francisco murder trial of Nima Momeni, the man charged with fatally stabbing Cash App founder and tech executive Bob Lee, closing arguments got underway Monday morning.

The jury is slated to hear closing statements from the prosecution and defense in roughly two hours each. Additionally, the concluding arguments can go into Tuesday.

The judge gave the jury instructions at the start of Monday’s hearing, including not to look into the facts or the law, conduct any research, administer any tests, or go to the location of the crime. The jurors were also instructed not to let prejudices affect their verdict and to use notes during their deliberations.

at April 2023, Momeni stabbed Lee at a distant location beneath the Bay Bridge, according to the prosecution, following a heated argument about his sister’s relationship with Lee and their continued drug usage. Lee was the former CTO of financial services company Square, which is now known as Block, and the CPO of the cryptocurrency MobileCoin at the time of his passing.

Momeni’s lawyers assert that he stabbed Lee in self-defense when Lee, under the influence of cocaine and ketamine, came at Momeni with a knife in his hand. The defense argues that after Momeni made a “bad joke” about Lee’s family, Lee became unpredictable and violent.

The prosecution, however, refuted that account with testimony from Lee’s acquaintances, who maintained that even while under the influence of narcotics, Lee was not the kind to argue physically or disparage others.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Lee and Khazar Momeni, the sister of Nima Momeni, were well-known in affluent Bay Area tech circles for being involved in an underground party scene that was fueled by drugs and sex. According to the documents, Lee allegedly had a relationship of some kind with Khazar Momeni, the wife of a well-known plastic surgeon in San Francisco. Khazar Momeni has disputed that she and Lee had a sexual relationship.

Momeni faces 26 years to life in prison if found guilty.
