ROCKINGHAM A man from Richmond County is accused of failing to stop for a police officer and faces narcotics charges.

The arrest warrant states that on November 27, a deputy attempted to pull over a 1995 Nissan pickup vehicle on U.S. 1 due to its fake license plate.

The warrant claims that the motorist drove recklessly, refused to stop, and went over the speed limit by more than 15 mph.

The warrant states that Austin Dwayne Brigman, 28, the truck’s driver, had an unknown quantity of fentanyl and methamphetamine.

Brigman was arrested and charged with methamphetamine possession, possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or distribute methamphetamine, possession of a Schedule II controlled drug, and maintenance of a vehicle, residence, or location for a prohibited substance. He was also charged with evading arrest while operating a motor vehicle.

In addition, he was given eight traffic tickets.

Brigman was arrested and placed under a $150,000 secured bond at the Richmond County Jail. He is scheduled to appear in court on January 16 for traffic infractions and December 12 for criminal offenses.

Brigman faces numerous traffic infractions and a pending charge of possessing drug paraphernalia, according to online court records.

Records from the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction show that Brigman was found guilty in 2021 of operating a vehicle while his license was revoked.

Until they are proven guilty in court, all defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent.
