After North Carolina police issued an AMBER Alert about a 15-year-old girl’s disappearance, the kid was discovered safe.

The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office reported on Monday afternoon that Yesenia Denise Lopez was last seen at her residence in Seven Springs just after 11 p.m. on Saturday. Shortly after the alert was sent, she was safely retrieved.

Police have praised the FBI, the North Carolina Bureau of Investigation, and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office for their help, but they have not yet released any details.

In response to the report from the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office, the National Center for Missing and Endangered, Inc. said that they had distributed the AMBER Alert to their network.

The Department of Justice states that if authorities suspect a kidnapping has occurred and the child is in immediate danger, they may issue an AMBER Alert. Missing persons who are 17 years of age or younger are subject to AMBER Alerts.

Before it was canceled, Lopez’s AMBER Alert was the only one in effect in the state, according to the North Carolina Center for Missing Persons.

According to the Center, North Carolina has had more than 13,000 incidents of missing persons this year. 12,769 of these lawsuits have been settled, while about 600 are still pending.

More than 8,100 of these cases involved teenagers, according to the Center.

The Center reports that 11 incidents this year have led to AMBER Alerts. Meanwhile, Ashanti Alerts, which are meant for people between the ages of 18 and 64, had to be used in six cases.
