Goodbye to the SSI check for the first week of December – Social Security makes it official

Sharing is caring!

Receiving their Social Security income is one of the most significant occasions on the calendars of seniors nationwide.

However, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is perhaps the benefit that individuals look forward to the most, even though all of the benefits that the Social Security Administration (SSA) provides are significant and essential for the recipients.

SSI recipients are among the most vulnerable members of society. They are probably already receiving other forms of public assistance because this benefit is combined with others that the SSA distributes.

First, who is eligible for SSI benefits? Beneficiaries, both adults and children, fall into three major categories:

  1. Those with little or no income, and
  2. Those with little or no resources, and
  3. A disability, blindness, or are age 65 or older.

Conditions to get SSI benefits

To ensure that only those who truly need the benefit are receiving it, the requirements must be quite stringent. This is due to the fact that the benefit is only provided to those who are really poor. The first issue that prevents people from applying for SSI is that they cannot earn more than $1,971 a month from their jobs.

The maximum income that two adults can earn from work when they apply for SSI jointly on behalf of a disabled child is increased to $4,841 per month (including both partners’ pre-tax and deduction income). However, they are only allowed to earn $2,398 per month from non-work sources such as unemployment benefits or pensions.

Secondly, assets or resources, vehicles, bank account balances, and other cash-generating items that aren’t personal property must be worth no more than $2,000 for individuals and $3,000 for couples. Limits may vary for parents applying on their children’s behalf.

Age is another important factor. This benefit is intended to assist those with limited options, and youth is a benefit. People under 64 must have a handicap that prevents them from working for a year or more, may cause their death, or makes it extremely difficult for them to do daily tasks (for children with impairments).

If you possess these items, you will also need to demonstrate that, during the month in which you are applying, your monthly income was less than $1,550.

In 2024, recipients will be eligible to receive a payout of up to $943 for an individual and $1,415 for a couple if all of these conditions are met. The payouts will increase to $1,450 for a couple and $967 for an individual next year.

The most that can be taken away is this much. A person’s income, their spouse’s income, where they reside, and whether they receive additional assistance from the state in which they reside all play a role.

The Social Security calendar

These payments are sent to all qualified beneficiaries on the first of each month to ensure maximum utility. However, SSI beneficiaries are accustomed to having their payments altered because the first of each month may fall on a weekend or national holiday.

Benefits are only sent by the Social Security Administration (SSA) on days when banks are open and mail is delivered by the US Postal Service. Benefits are despatched early to ensure they get at their destination on time if the date occurs on one of these days.

Because the first of the month falls on a Sunday in December, this is what occurs. Benefits were therefore distributed on November 29, this year’s Black Friday. January benefits will see the same outcome. The January SSI payment will be made on December 31, New Year’s Eve, because January 1 is a holiday.
