Police announced an arrest in the San Jose shooting case Wednesday, more than three years after a man was killed and a woman was injured.

Officers said the two were shot on the evening of September 10, 2021, close to Winchester Boulevard and Cadillac Drive. The woman’s injuries were not life-threatening, so she was brought to the hospital.

When officers discovered that the man was not responding, they took him to the hospital, where he passed away from his wounds. His identification was not made public by the police.

Before the police came, the suspects left the site. According to the results of an initial inquiry, the incident was prompted by gang activity.

Detectives were able to identify two suspects and secure arrest warrants during the course of the investigation.

One of the suspects was found by police in San Benito County on Tuesday. Christopher Espionza, a 35-year-old Hollister resident, was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Jail records show that Espinoza is being kept without the possibility of release. On Wednesday, he is expected to appear in court.

Isaiah Sotelo, 22, is the second suspect who police are still looking for. A felony arrest warrant is still out for him, and it is thought that he is hiding in Mexico.

Anyone with information regarding Sotelo’s location or the incident is encouraged to get in touch with the department’s homicide unit’s Detective Harrington or Detective Sgt. Barragan by phone at 408-277-5283 or via email.
