Body found in bay near San Rafael identified as missing Sacramento teen Mai Sai Vue

The bones of a person discovered last week close to San Pablo Bay have been recognized by Marin County authorities as belonging to a young Sacramento woman who had gone missing on Halloween.

The woman was definitively identified as 18-year-old Mai Sai Vue, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement on Thursday. According to deputies, her identity was not confirmed right away because her prolonged exposure to the weather.

“The Marin County Sheriff’s Office and personnel of the Coroner Division offers our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Vue,” the statement read.

Deputies were called to Point San Pedro near McNears Beach in San Rafael shortly before 10:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving after Vue’s body was found on the beach. Her corpse was reported to be in a difficult-to-reach spot next to the ocean, and Marin County Search and Rescue Team members and other first responders were called in to retrieve it.

According to investigators, Vue vanished on Halloween after attending a performance in San Francisco with friends and relatives.Shortly after her disappearance, San Francisco police said that Vue was last seen at approximately 11 p.m. that evening near Grove and Larkin streets.

Deputies report that standard toxicological testing and a forensic postmortem examination are still waiting. There are currently no indications of foul play.

The San Francisco Police Department and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office’s Coroner Division are still investigating Vue’s cause of death.
