Since the earthquake, the area has had more than 120 aftershocks, with up to four or five detectable aftershocks per hour shaking the region.
The majority of people in Rio Dell are simply thankful that things did not get worse.
April Ness recalled, “I was up like this,” as she stocked a refrigerator at her workplace, a deli and store in Humboldt County. “I was up like this when it began to shimmy. This is how I grabbed a hold. Then I noticed the ice cream syrup begin to fly off the shelf. As if the earth had just begun to rise. We proceeded right to the door, sort of tiptoeing. got everyone out in a flash.
Ness saw Thursday’s earthquake as a sort of initiation for Humboldt County. She recently relocated from Kentucky to Scotia.
Her words, “It was a crazy ride,” “I have never in my life done something like that. And I doubt I’ll ever want to do it again.

“That was April 26, 1992,” Ness said in reference to the picture.
Thus, another earthquake occurs every year. However, this was only a minor blow in comparison to the damage that the neighboring fault might cause.
“It’s just amazing that within less than a minute all of this happened,” Ness said.
There are people here who can identify damage that occurred in 2022 by pointing to specific areas of their buildings. It appears to be widely accepted that the earthquake struck much more forcefully here due to its powerful initial shock. Recall the period when there was a power outage and the Ferndale Bridge was temporarily blocked.
After Thursday’s 7.0, nothing similar has occurred in a neighborhood that is accustomed to large earthquakes that appear to occur around this time of year these days. Many residents will also tell you that they are aware that the next one might not be too far away.
