Raleigh, NC (WNCN) — A social media warning about serial killers, which detectives say is a fake, has spread to another county in North Carolina.

Authorities in Edgecombe County found a phony social media post last week that warned locals about a serial killer and included a man’s mugshot.

Edgecombe County Sheriff Cleveland Atkinson said, “You better believe we’ll be out front if I think we have a serial killer in our county.”

According to officials on Friday, the phony serial killer message has now surfaced in Warren County.

The warning, which shows a bearded, bald man, claims that he attacks you while knocking on people’s doors and claiming to be homeless.

This Christmas season, Guilford County Sheriff Danny Rogers issues a warning about scams.

According to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, it is being circulated across our community, but there doesn’t appear to be any news or supporting documentation for the claims made in the social media post.

The current position also seems to reference Warrenton, Virginia, according to Warren County officials.

Warren County deputies said, “We take great pride in the safety and security of our communities, and we can guarantee you that if this individual were among us, we would notify the public.”

The man in the picture was found by CBS 17. The mugshot is from a case in 2018, when he was arrested on several charges, none of which were murder or homicide. He is from Louisiana.

Additionally, his name differs from the one that was used in the phony social media post.
