A automobile chase in New York City ended in a police gunfire, leaving one man dead, a lady injured, and a baby unhurt.

At a news conference on Thursday, December 6, authorities from the New York Police Department (NYPD) revealed that officers in Brooklyn pursued down a car after ShotSpotter, a gunshot detection device, warned police that there may have been a gunshot in the Crown Heights neighborhood.

Around 3 p.m. local time, cops arrived at a building on N. Portland Avenue after a witness reported seeing a car with an out-of-state license plate hanging on one hinge, according to NYPD Chief Jeffrey Maddrey.

The driver, who is thought to be the baby’s mother, ran away when she saw a police vehicle, and officers eventually located the vehicle at the intersection of Fulton Street and Washington Avenue.

Maddrey said that after that, NYPD cops started shooting at the vehicle, urging everybody inside to drop any weapons. There were roughly 18 or 19 shots fired by several officers.

Officers said they found a youngster in the backseat when the woman who was driving the vehicle got out and tried to get away.

According to Maddrey, an officer got into the car and took the infant out of the backseat after one of the cops started shouting, “Baby, baby,” to get the other officers to stop shooting.

ABC 7 and FOX 5 said that the girl was three, the male was twenty-one, and the woman was twenty-three.

Maddrey said the male in the passenger seat was shot and the woman was captured following a brief foot pursuit. Maddrey added that the man was wanted in a March 2024 homicide investigation.

It’s unclear if the suspect fired his gun, but police say a semi-automatic handgun found at the scene had a 30-round capacity.

Except for firearms used in ranges or competitions, the legal capacity in New York is ten rounds.

The woman and the infant were sent to a local hospital after she sustained two bullet wounds to her right thigh.

According to Maddrey, the individual was handcuffed by the authorities before receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation, during which he passed away. Since his family is still being informed, his identity has not yet been made public.

The driver is believed to be the mother of the undamaged youngster, according to ABC 7. Police said she had violated multiple traffic violations and that the youngster was in the backseat without a car seat, but she had not been charged.
