A man was killed in a wreck on Interstate 65 in Butler County

An SUV and a tractor-trailer truck collided on Interstate 65 in Butler County, killing a man.

Robert M. Thomas, 77, of Pensacola, Florida, lost his life when the SUV he was riding in struck the rear of the tractor-trailer truck being driven by Jose Manuel Valin Cano, 38, of Miami Gardens, according to Alabama State Troopers.

State troopers said Thomas died at the scene after being flung from the SUV. Gail A. Thomas, 75, of Pensacola, was also hurt and taken to Regional Medical Center of Central Alabama in Greenville for medical attention.

Cano was taken to the Regional Medical Center of Central Alabama after suffering injuries as well.

The collision happened about four miles south of Greenville on Saturday at about 4:50 p.m.
