In relation to their child’s death last week, Syntia, 21, and Jacce, 23, an Indiana couple, were arrested this week and charged with maltreatment resulting in the death of a dependant.
The Indiana Department of Child Services took custody of the parents’ other two children, ages three and five, after the fatal event at the family home.
Authorities claim that the parents did not check on their two-year-old until 3 p.m. the next day after putting him to bed at around 7 p.m. the previous evening.
The child was put in her crib, which is typically housed in the main bedroom’s closet.
The child’s death was discovered the following day, about 22 hours after the parents put her to sleep with a space heater set to its highest setting, according to the authorities.
An autopsy determined that the infant died of hyperthermia, a disorder marked by a markedly elevated body temperature above normal, according to local news site WANE.
When the parents phoned 911 and told the dispatcher that their child was not responding, the inquiry got underway. The family home, according to the responding cops, was covered in filthy dishes and rubbish.
After learning that the parents were living in incredibly unhealthy conditions, CPS took the two other children out of the house. The responding officers found a 2-year-old victim named ZaeIynn on a dirty mattress in a cupboard. On the spot, the youngster was declared dead.
The room’s temperature was subsequently measured by the responding cops and found to be around 109 degrees. According to the parents, the responding cops found a space heater that had been left on for twenty-one hours.
Investigators were told by the medical examiner that the child’s death was caused by heat. The father (SEE PHOTO) and mother (SEE PHOTO) allegedly told detectives that they turned the temperature all the way up and put the child to bed at around 7 p.m.
Neither parent checked on the toddler until after 3 p.m., when they found her body and dialed 911, according to police officials.
According to court documents, both parents are being held in the county jail and are expected to appear in court again on March 7, 2025.
