A federal indictment accuses nearly 40 individuals, including a man from Ellerbe, of plotting to distribute cocaine hydrochloride, methamphetamine, and fentanyl.

According to Sandra J. Hairston, United States Attorney for the Middle District of North Carolina, Corneillous Deonte Staley, 33, also known as Sosa, is one of 38 individuals charged with conspiracy to distribute drugs in an indictment that was made public on December 10.

The cast of Candor includes Erick Lemar Pollard, Christopher Trelonnie Everette, Damon Lee Ingram, Lewis Rondez Pratt, Camarious Kison Phillips, Justin Rand Allen, and Kelly Emanual Harrington Jr.; the cast of Mount Gilead includes Nicholas Tyler Curry, Trent Dashun Starnes, Amya Kyonna Gordon, and Katey Ann Lamonds.Xavier Fabrice Ellis, Scottie Perett Stanback, and Jackson Springs Ray Cozart Jr.Ten out of the 38 defendants are also charged with money laundering conspiracy.

Eight of the suspects are outside the Middle District, and according to federal prosecutors, all but one are in custody.

The investigation was carried out by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces, which, according to a press release, uses a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach that capitalizes on the strengths of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies against criminal networks in order to identify, disrupt, and dismantle the top-level drug traffickers, money launderers, gangs, and transnational criminal organizations that pose a threat to the United States.

Sheriff’s offices in Harnett, Moore, Montgomery, and Stanly counties, as well as the police departments in Candor, Fayetteville, and Mesa, are all part of North Carolina’s alcohol law enforcement.Authorities think the suspects might spend the rest of their life behind bars if found guilty. Money laundering charges carry a potential 20-year sentence.

Until they are proven guilty in court, all defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent.
