A six-figure NYPD sergeant was arrested and placed on unpaid leave after allegedly stealing $15 worth of cough medicine and drops from a Long Island Target in two different instances.
According to the NY Daily News, Sgt. Rayna Madho, a 41-year-old veteran of the NYPD, has served in a number of units since joining in 2006 and earned over $200,000 in fiscal 2024, including over $55,000 in overtime.
Madho allegedly failed to scan all of her purchases at a self-checkout, prompting store employees to call the police during a citywide spike in retail theft.
Madho is charged with two counts of petit larceny for allegedly stealing Ricola cough drops and Zarbee’s cough syrup from the Valley Stream Target on November 24 and December 7.
Her record includes misconduct allegations and civil cases paid for a total of $161,000, despite her illustrious career and leadership in the Desi Society, which advocates for South Asian officers.
Madho will appear in court on December 27 to enter a plea of guilty or not guilty. Madho is now suspended without pay.
