A heartbreaking case from Texas has drawn attention to the tragic death of an 8-year-old boy, Kendrick Lee, who was left unprotected by his own mother.

Gloria Yvette Williams, 38, did nothing to stop her boyfriend, Brian Ward Coulter, 34, from brutally beating her son to death.

Shockingly, she even forced Kendrick’s siblings to live with his body for a year, according to authorities.

Williams recently pleaded guilty to causing serious injury to Kendrick by failing to act.

Meanwhile, her boyfriend Coulter was found guilty of first-degree murder back in April and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The investigation began in October 2021 when a 15-year-old boy made a chilling 911 call, revealing that he and his siblings, aged 7 and 10, had been living with their brother Kendrick’s decomposing body in their Houston home for a year.

Detectives were stunned by this discovery and quickly launched an investigation.

After Kendrick’s death, which occurred in late 2020, Williams and Coulter simply covered his body with a blanket and moved to a different apartment, leaving the children behind.

The police arrested them shortly after the 15-year-old’s distressing call.

During the court trial, Kendrick’s siblings testified that they witnessed Coulter repeatedly hitting Kendrick while he was still alive.

One of the younger brothers described watching Kendrick’s eyes until he stopped blinking, an image that will likely stay with him forever.

She said, “The death of Kendrick Lee was so tragic, and because for so long there was no one to speak up for him, we felt like we had a duty to be his voice.”

Co-counsel Edward A. Appelbaum added, “No matter who you are, if you’re a human being, the facts of this case would shake you to the core. It’s a horrific act.”

Williams has been charged with neglecting to protect Kendrick and failing to provide him with necessary medical care, food, and shelter.

As part of her plea deal, she could face up to 55 years in prison when she’s sentenced on November 11.
