Oakland police said they confiscated guns and other illicit things, including illegal cannabis and mushrooms, from a smoke shop in East Oakland earlier this month.

Officers on Monday provided information regarding an inspection that occurred on December 5 at a licensed tobacco business located in the 8500 block of Bancroft Avenue. Police claimed that after receiving information from the public on suspected unlawful activities occurring within the establishment, they launched an investigation.

“OPD will continue to focus on educating store owners about the serious consequences associated with selling unlawful flavored tobacco products under the legal age of 21.” According to a police statement. By holding smoke shops and company owners accountable for harmful and unlawful activities, special enforcement offers a chance to keep our communities’ youngsters safe.

Officers from the Eastend Foot Patrol and Alcohol Beverage Action Tam found “large quantities” of illegal flavored tobacco and cannabis products during the inspection. The store is not a legal cannabis dispensary, according to the police.

Police also found khat and psilocybin mushrooms, among other banned narcotics, in addition to the tobacco and cannabis. Two registered firearms were also seized by the police, who pointed out that it is against the law to carry a firearm and possess controlled narcotics for sale.

During the inspection, no one was taken into custody. According to police, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office has been tasked with taking further action on the matter.
