Oakland police seek clues into deadly shooting at class reunion

Oakland police are looking for information from the public to assist identify the culprits in the September shooting death at a class reunion.

Officers claim that on the evening of September 28, during the yearly McClymonds High School Alumni Picnic, Tony Miller was shot in DeFremery Park. Miller was treated by police and paramedics before passing away at the hospital from his wounds.

A witness told the Bay Area’s CBS NewsThere were about 200 people at the park when the shooting occurred, and the reunion was coming to an end after the incident.

“The expressions on other people’s faces were clearly visible. According to Cynthia Thompson, a neighbor who was at the gathering and heard the gunshots, “the people were grabbing things and grabbing their children and moving and running.”

“It was dark, and there must have been twenty shots. While people were yelling and running, the cops arrived quickly, according to Harvey Yarbrough, who lives across the street from DeFremery Park.

After the shooting, Deputy Chief Fredrick Shavies stated that there might have been more shooters.

Miller, a McClymonds graduate, was shot two days prior to turning 39, according to police, who spoke to CBS News Bay Area. Tommy Miller, the victim’s twin brother, was slain in an East Oakland gunfight in 2008 at the age of 22.

This year, Tony Miller became Oakland’s 70th victim of homicide.
