An update regarding the murders of a family discovered inside their apartment on Tuesday was given by Milpitas police, who stated that a murder-suicide investigation is underway.
The family was identified by Lt. Tyler Jamison in an update on Thursday as 36-year-old Vinh Nguyen, his wife, 36-year-old Becky Pham, their four-year-old daughter, and their nine-year-old son. Due to a request from the family, the police did not disclose the identities of the youngsters.
After relatives reported that they had not heard from the family for a few days, police were summoned to their residence in the Turing apartments at 1355 McCandless Drive at approximately 9 p.m. on Tuesday to conduct a welfare check. The bodies of the four family members were discovered.
All four suffered a single gunshot wound, although the Santa Clara County coroner is still investigating the cause of death.
Nguyen was named by the police as the incident’s suspect. At the site was a firearm that was properly registered to Nguyen.
“This tragedy is a difficult reminder of the importance of addressing domestic violence and gun violence,” Jamison said on Thursday. “The loss of their lives was preventable and for anyone experiencing distress, whether that’s domestic violence, gun violence or mental health concerns, help is available.”
According to Jamison, the event most likely happened over the weekend. The address has never been called before.
The news was surprising, Jerry Saldana, who lives above the crime site, told CBS News Bay Area on Wednesday.
“It’s frightening. We have a family, you know,” Saldana remarked. “We got children ourselves, and to think that, you know, we’re just right above, you know, the unit that it happened in, and not knowing any information.”
