Beginning this weekend and continuing through the majority of next week, a number of storms are predicted to pass over the Bay Area, bringing with them rain, soggy soils, and hazardous ocean conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, Friday’s beautiful skies will give way to a “parade of impactful storms” that should begin late Friday night. The first of two weekend low-pressure systems is expected to dump up to an inch and a half of rain on the area.

Soggy conditions will saturate soils and southerly winds will increase in speed throughout the weekend, preparing the ground for a second wave of storms that are predicted to occur Monday through Thursday.

Due to potentially fatal large wave conditions along the beaches and in certain bayside sites, a High Surf Advisory is anticipated to be in effect from 6 a.m. on Saturday through 4 p.m. on Sunday, with a High Surf Warning most likely on Monday and Tuesday.

The weather service warns of falling trees, mud and rock slides, and rising creeks and streams as the rainy weather continues and gusts reach 45 mph at higher elevations.

Rainfall totals in the area are predicted to peak at 2.5 to 3.5 inches during the second pair of storms, with Monday and Tuesday having the highest likelihood of thunderstorms.
