A grandmother from Maryland has won a life-changing lottery prize after purchasing a Cash4Life ticket at a 7-Eleven in Olney.

She chose the cash option, which will give her $1 million upfront. The winner, who is from Montgomery County, said she found out about her win while relaxing at home.

She was sitting on her couch, checking the lottery results on her phone just 15 minutes after the 9 p.m. drawing.

The moment she realized she had won was surreal. “I had the ticket in one hand and my phone with the numbers in the other.

I couldn’t believe my eyes and thought, ‘Am I seeing double?'” she recalled. While her quick-pick ticket had a Cash Ball of 1, the rest of the numbers matched, leading her to win the $1,000-a-Week-for-Life prize.

Unsure of what she plans to do with her winnings just yet, the lucky grandmother mentioned she will meet with a financial adviser before making any decisions.

Interestingly, she’s not a regular Cash4Life player. She only stopped at the Olney 7-Eleven because of bad traffic and decided to buy a ticket on a whim.

While filling out a Pick 3/4/5 playslip, she noticed she had an extra $2 to spend.

The 7-Eleven store at 18120 Georgia Avenue is also celebrating. For selling the winning ticket, the store will receive a $2,500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.

This win marks the 10th second-tier Cash4Life prize in Maryland since the state began offering the game in 2016.

Over the years, five Maryland players have also won the top prize of $1,000 a day for life.
