Airports in the Bay Area anticipate a high volume of travelers during the holiday season, with the days after Christmas probably seeing the most traffic.

In spite of the fact that her daughter’s flight to Oakland International Airport was somewhat delayed on Sunday, Jessica Newberry thought the holiday travel day was fine overall.

“It’s been pretty smooth from what I’ve seen so far,” she stated.

Newberry anticipated that the airport would be extremely crowded and prone to delays because it was the height of the holiday travel season.

“I’m glad my daughter decided to fly in on a Sunday instead of a weekday,” she stated.

This holiday travel season is predicted to be one of the busiest yet, despite the lack of a frenzy of activity during the window she was there.

Over 500,000 travelers are anticipated to use the Oakland airport during the December holiday travel period. Over 300,000 people are anticipated to arrive at Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC) between December 19 and January 5.

Between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day, San Francisco International Airport (SFO) expects 6.3 million passengers, a 15% increase over the 2023 holiday travel season.

“Definitely get out early,” advised Nia Pitts, who took a plane from Burbank to Oakland. “Although they recommend to do it two hours in advance, I would definitely say to do it a bit more. The TSA may see some backlogs.

Keevey Davis made the right decision by allocating more time for Sunday than he would actually use.

“Usually, I don’t fly around the holidays because I know how hectic it gets around the holiday, and I just don’t have the patience to be stuck in long lines and all of that stuff,” he stated. “So far, so good.”

The three busiest travel days in the near future, according to airlines, are the 26th, 27th, and 29th.

According to Newberry, “I would just recommend not flying in during rush hour,” “Don’t land at 5:00 p.m., don’t do that to your loved ones!”
