The office of U.S. Attorney Ismail Ramsey said Friday that Gustavo Erazo, a citizen of Honduras, has been extradited to the United States to face charges in connection with a purported conspiracy to distribute cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl throughout the Bay Area.

According to prosecutors, Erazo, 49, lived in Oakland at the time of his grand jury indictment in January 2023. He was accused of possessing cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl as well as conspiring to distribute them.

According to the criminal complaint, Erazo was detained in Berkeley in November 2022 after police allegedly seized about 21 pounds of suspected drugs, guns, and cash from his home.

With the help of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency and Honduran officials, Erazo was apprehended and brought back to the United States after escaping to Honduras, according to prosecutors.

According to prosecutors, he is set to appear before a U.S. Magistrate Judge on Thursday and will have a status hearing on Monday.

Erazo may spend up to life in federal prison and pay hefty fines if found guilty.
