A toddler was hurt in what looks to be an attempted murder-suicide Thursday morning when a shooting occurred inside a San Francisco home, leaving one person dead and another seriously injured.
The incident took place close to the Alemany Farmers Market in the city’s Bernal Heights area, on the 1000 block of Tompkins Avenue.
According to San Francisco police spokesman Officer Eve Laokwansa, responding officers discovered a male and a woman who had been shot. After receiving life-threatening medical attention from responding officers and paramedics, the woman was transported to a hospital. According to Laokwansa, the man was declared deceased by the home’s medical staff.
Officers were informed that a toddler had been shot and had arrived at a hospital while they were responding to the shooting at the house, according to Laokwansa. There were no life-threatening injuries to the toddler. The injured toddler was linked to the shooting at the house on Tompkins Avenue, according to the police.
According to Laokwansa, there was no continuous threat to the community and the act was isolated. According to Laokwansa, investigations into the shooting’s circumstances and the victims’ relationships are still ongoing.
Nevertheless, a guy posing as Anthony Thomas told reporters outside the house that he was the father of the man who had died, Antoine Thomas, 24, and that his son had shot himself to death.
Trying not to cry, Thomas remarked, “He took his life, um, for some strange reason,” “I was unable to arrive in time to put an end to it. And, well, he’s gone now. What a gift for my birthday, which is today. I simply advise folks to avoid firearms and to attempt to resolve their issues as best they can. Additionally, I shouldn’t have to bury my son, but I do.”
Thomas said the mother of his son’s child called Thomas to urge him to come over to the home immediately, and while on his way he received another call from his daughter to say his son had shot the child’s mother and then shot himself.
When Thomas got to the house, his daughter had taken the toddler—whom he identified as his grandson—to the hospital.
“My daughter dragged my grandson away, and he is now fine after being taken to the hospital. The baby mama is doing fine. And regrettably, my son has passed away,” Thomas remarked, sobbing.
The San Francisco Fire Department advised residents to stay away from the area surrounding the Alemany Farmers Market, which is typically open on Saturdays, and reported that police had closed several roadways.
