Many members of the Jewish community came together to celebrate the last night of Hanukkah on Wednesday night at San Francisco’s Union Square.
The holiday’s message—that light triumphs over darkness—had particular meaning as the final candle was lit.
The great menorah lighting is not the only Hanukkah celebration that the Aisenberg family attends.
“This little boy and his baby brother were taken on October 7th, 2023,” Jackie Aisenberg stated.
Jackie Aisenberg is grieving over the events of October 7. As a mother and pediatrician, she has prayed for the safe return of these kids and worked to maintain their identities in the public eye.
“This is part of our luggage, everyday luggage,” Jackie Aisenberg stated. “We need to be strong, we need to be proud and we need to speak out for them.”
Jackie has a particular place in her heart for children, but the horrific New Year’s Day attack in New Orleans has also affected her. Everyone’s safety and tranquility are the goals for 2025.
“As part of humanity, I don’t think this is pertaining in particular to necessarily to any ethnicity, or to any religion or to any people,” she continued. “This is a matter of human values.”
Sergio Aisenberg, her husband, remarked, “We never lose the hope, lost the hope, or will lose the hope for a better world.”
Therefore, as Hanukkah draws to a close, the Aisenberg family hopes that the message of light and strength will speak to individuals of all faiths and beliefs.
“We need to stand together,” she stated that. Even if we are Jewish, it’s not just Jews. In open societies where we are free to uphold our moral principles, it is everyone who believes in humanity.
