A damaged electricity pole along eastbound I-780 in Vallejo is threatening to drop live wires across all lanes of the freeway, so PG&E personnel are doing emergency repairs on Tuesday, according to municipal officials.

Shortly before 5 p.m. on Tuesday, the City of Vallejo X account wrote about the associated outage and emergency electrical repair. According to the post, the electricity pole at Laurel Street on the westbound side of I-780 had damage to its cross arm and was in “high risk for complete failure.”

The problem started during a high wind advisory that is in effect for a large portion of the Bay Area, though officials did not specify how the electricity pole was damaged.

EMERGENCY ELECTRIC WORK AND POWER OUTAGE PGE experienced damage to a cross arm on a power pole along EB 780 close to Laurel Street. There is a significant chance that this will break completely, causing cables to fall into every lane of HWY 780. To close all lanes, we are working with CHP.image.twitter.com/oMrXv5x8bh

According to the post, live wires would be dropped across both lanes of I-780 in both directions if the power pole failed.

Authorities in Vallejo stated that they were working with the CHP to close all of the freeway’s lanes. The PG&E outage map indicates that 315 local residents are without power due to a power pole issue. Shortly before 4 p.m., the outage was initially reported.

The freeway shutdown has not yet been confirmed by CHP.

The story is still evolving. As more information becomes available, it will be included.
