Man fatally shot in West San Jose in city’s first homicide of 2025

A man was found shot dead over the weekend, and San Jose police are looking into the city’s first homicide of 2025.

Officers were summoned to the 3100 block of Loma Verde Drive near Winchester Boulevard in West San Jose at approximately 10:10 p.m. on Saturday after receiving reports of a shooting. After finding the victim, who had at least one gunshot wound, officers took life-saving actions.

After being transported to a nearby hospital, the man passed away from his wounds and was declared dead. The coroner will reveal his name after verifying it and informing his next of kin.

It took some time to get more information regarding the shooting. The motivation and circumstances surrounding the shooting are being investigated, police said Monday.

Officers report that 28 homicides occurred in San Jose last year, with the most recent one being on December 30.
