After discovering a man on the city’s iconic water tower over the weekend, Campbell police have detained him on suspicion of damaging it.

Around 2:25 a.m. on Sunday, police were dispatched to the tower, which is situated in the city’s downtown. Officers discovered that the suspect had caused more damage and was still on the tower.

The suspect disobeyed the police’s “multiple announcements” to come down from the tower, according to the police. Officers kept a “discreet” presence and moved marked cars to prevent the situation from getting worse.

Around 4:40 a.m., more than two hours after the authorities were contacted, the suspect willingly down. After a brief foot pursuit, he was put into jail.

Briley Bodemark, 24, was the suspect who was taken into custody and placed into the Santa Clara County Jail on charges of resisting arrest, criminal vandalism, and possession of graffiti equipment.

At least two additional recent instances of vandalism on the tower occurred on December 26 and January 9, according to authorities.

According to a statement from Police Chief Gary Berg, “We take great pride in our city and its landmarks,” “Thanks to an observant community member who reported seeing the individual on the water tower, we were able to safely apprehend the suspect and hold him accountable for his actions.”

The Campbell Police Department responded to a report of a suspect on the property at around 2:25 AM on Sunday, January 12.

On Tuesday, police said that they had worked with the city’s Public Works department to have the damage removed. A city employee was seen painting over graffiti on the tower in a post on the department’s Facebook page.
