Visitors from all over the Bay Area, the nation, and the world flock to The Buena Vista Caf to see John Jeide and the other bartenders create their renowned Irish coffees.
Over his 16 years at The Buena Vista, Jeide thinks he has manufactured over 3 million of them.
“That’s a rough guestimate,” he grinned.
He anticipates adding a ton more in 2025.
“These last few weeks, we’ve been really crazy busy,” he stated.
He believes 2025 will be a significant year for San Francisco’s tourism recovery, as does the rest of the staff at The Buena Vista.
The company that has been operating on the corner of Hyde and Beach for more than 110 years is led by General Manager Larry Silva.
“This year’s holiday was excellent. It appears that it will go on for us,” he remarked. “I’m confident we’ll succeed. I hope things improve for the neighbors.
Since the epidemic, San Francisco’s tourism industry has been sluggish to rebound. Businesses have had a difficult time in recent years, particularly those located in tourist-heavy locations like Fisherman’s Wharf.
“The region is having difficulties. The cable car’s performance is good. They need to turn things around on Jefferson Street. “Hopefully, it will help if the tourists show up,” he remarked.
There are reasons to believe that 2025 will be a successful year for the city’s tourism industry, according to Anne Marie Presutti, CEO of SF Travel.
“We have a very robust convention calendar,” she stated. This year, the city is hosting more than 35 conventions. This year is likely to be far better than 2024.
Presutti stated that there are currently more than 200,000 more hotel rooms booked for 2025 than there were for 2024, which translates to a greater hotel occupancy rate.
“Hotel taxes are the largest source of funding for the general fund, correct? “The city does better when the hotels are full and occupancy is high,” she remarked. “2024 was simply challenging in every sense. Both foreign travel and tourism were declining.
According to SF Travel, there will be about 23 million tourists in 2025, and they will spend about $10 billion.
Presutti’s responsibility is to successfully market San Francisco to tourists and event organizers.
In order to get customers to either A, give us a first glance, or B, give us a second look, we partnered with United Airlines. It’s probably time for you to return and truly experience it for yourself if you haven’t been here in a long time. We were able to draw people into the city last year, and it was a huge success,” she said. “What we kept hearing, time and time again, as we got towards the end of the year, ‘This is nothing like what I saw on television, this is nothing like what people were talking about.'”
Christopher Young, the Chief Program Officer of DECA, previously the Distributive Education Clubs of America, who just signed an agreement to bring two world conferences to San Francisco in the upcoming years, was available for an interview with CBS News Bay Area.
One of those cities that you’ve undoubtedly heard a lot about lately is San Francisco. I believe it will be an excellent place for our upcoming leaders and entrepreneurs to experience the city, energy, tech sector, and startup ecosystem once they are here,” Young stated. “The walkability, the hotels, the things to do in the city, the Moscone Center all of those components will be a great opportunity for our high school students to experience an iconic city and to be able to show off their business skills in such a fabulous location.”
Given that San Francisco is hosting major events this year, such as the NBA All-Star Game in February, Presutti stated that the city must perform at its highest level.
“We have to show up, and we have to look our best and be our best,” she stated.
According to Jeide, he is witnessing evidence that the external image of San Francisco is evolving.
A man from Iowa came here the other day and said, ‘You know what, John, I’ve been here four days. This town truly impresses me. “I’m really impressed with it, even though I’ve heard a lot about it,” he remarked. “It was nice to hear that he was good. Finally, I thought positively.
