The Golden State Warriors defeated the Washington Wizards 122-114 on Saturday night, led by 26 points from Stephen Curry, who left the game in the last minute due to an ankle injury.
Before Curry went to the Warriors bench, he was down on the court for a few seconds after becoming entangled with Jordan Poole of Washington beneath the basket.
Andrew Wiggins led Golden State with 31 points and 11 rebounds.
Poole scored 38 points for Washington in his second game at Chase Center after the Warriors traded him to the Wizards.
The Warriors took a double-digit lead with two and a half minutes remaining after going on an 11-2 run, led by two 3-pointers by Curry, halfway through the fourth quarter.
After missing three games due to illness, Draymond Green had just returned to the starting lineup when he left the game in the first quarter due to discomfort in his left calf.
The Wizards lead 60-53 at the half, with 23 points by Poole.
Curry, who had tape on his ankle when he arrived at his locker following the game, told Warriors head coach Steve Kerr that he didn’t believe the injury was significant, but he didn’t elaborate.
“Feels great,” Curry remarked briefly at his locker after the game. “See you on Monday.”
Takeaways
Wizards: Poole’s powerful retaliation game against the Warriors ended abruptly, and the Wizards have now lost nine straight games. After making a 3-pointer in the third quarter, he was energetic, chatting with his old friends on the Warriors bench and surpassing Curry in scoring for the first time in four games.
Warriors: Although Golden State is back above.500, defeating the NBA-worst Wizards required a terrific fourth quarter.
Key moment
After putting on a dribbling and shot-faking display against Bilal Coulibaly of the Wizards, Curry made a 3-pointer late in the fourth quarter to put the Warriors ahead 115-105.
Key stat
In addition to hitting his 900th career 3-pointer, Poole went 8 of 15 from beyond the arc, making him the first member of the 2019 draft class to do it.
