As a train approached on Sunday, a woman’s car got stuck at a railroad crossing in eastern Contra Costa County, but she managed to escape unharmed, according to authorities.
Officers were dispatched to the tracks near Big Break Road and Main Street shortly after 5:30 p.m., following the train’s impact on the vehicle. Police discovered the woman close to the scene of the collision.
The woman, who was the only one inside the car, told officers that as she got closer to the tracks, the car started having issues. At one set of tracks, the woman drove off the road and became caught on them.
A few time later, the woman noticed the train coming and got out of the car. The woman’s car received “major damage” from the train strike, according to the police.
According to authorities, there is no indication that intoxication was a factor in the crash. The Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railway police are now in charge of the inquiry.
When driving close to railroad tracks, police warned drivers to make sure they have cleared them. Additionally, drivers were advised to maintain the number 1-800-832-5442, which is the BNSF Resource Operations Call Center, in their contacts.
