In the last minutes of his presidency, Biden pardons family members

President Joe Biden pardoned a number of close relatives on Monday in the closing minutes of his presidency.

The vice president said in a statement that his family has been the target of constant threats and insults, driven only by a desire to harm him. This is the worst type of political politics. Regretfully, I have no reason to think that these attacks will stop.

For this reason, I am using my constitutional authority to pardon John T. Owens, Francis W. Biden, Valerie Biden Owens, Sara Jones Biden, and James B. Biden.

Later, he said, Biden. These pardons should not be interpreted as an admission of guilt for any offense, nor should their granting be interpreted as a recognition that they committed any wrongdoing.

Joe’s younger brother, James Biden; his wife, Sara Jones Biden; Joe’s younger sister, Valerie Biden Owens; Valerie’s husband, John T. Owens; and Joe’s younger brother, Francis W. Biden, were all given the five preemptive pardons.

Biden offered preemptive pardons for his siblings and in-laws while he was at the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump.

I support the rule of law and have faith that our legal system’s power will ultimately overcome politics. However, the lives, safety, and financial stability of the targeted individuals and their families are severely impacted by false and politically driven investigations.

“The mere fact of being investigated or prosecuted can irreparably harm their reputations and finances, even when they have done nothing wrong and will ultimately be cleared,” Biden said.

According to the vice president, the granting of these pardons should not be interpreted as an admission of guilt for any infraction, nor should their acceptance be interpreted as a recognition that they committed any wrongdoing.

This follows Biden’s contentious pardon of his son Hunter Biden for federal firearms charges and tax violations in early December. Biden has made it clear time and time again that he had no plans to pardon Hunter.

The 75-year-old James Biden has drawn special criticism from Republicans.

As part of the impeachment inquiry into the outgoing president and his family, congressional Republicans have encouraged the incoming Justice Department to charge James Biden with lying to Congress.

James and Sara Biden’s lawyer, Paul Fishman, told ABC News that since they have never committed a crime, they did not request this pardon. However, they have accepted it for the reasons the President has given.

In an effort to hold James Biden responsible for misleading Congress about Joe Biden’s involvement in his family’s influence peddling and his deservingness of federal prosecution, House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer wrote to new Attorney General Pam Bondi on Friday.

The Justice Department has previously received a criminal referral for James Biden from Comer and his Republican colleagues. In response to the preemptive pardons granted to Biden’s family, Comer called them a confession of their corruption.

James Biden and his family members are exonerated of any nonviolent crimes against the United States that they may have committed or participated in between January 1, 2014, and the date of this pardon, according to the pardon warrant, which was signed on January 19.

As is customary for outgoing presidents, the outgoing president granted his second preemptive pardon on Monday. Additionally, he pardoned members of the House Jan. 6 committee, retired Gen. Mark Milley, and Dr. Anthony Fauci, all of whom were slated to be targets of the new Trump administration.

Every day, our nation depends on devoted, selfless public service. “They are essential to our democracy,” Biden stated in his remarks. However, it is disturbing to note that public employees have consistently faced threats and intimidation for diligently carrying out their responsibilities.
