Five people have been taken into custody in relation to a gang-related shooting that occurred last year, San Jose police said Monday.

Officers were summoned to a residence on the 1300 block of Dubert Lane, close to Santee Drive, on the morning of July 21 after receiving allegations of a weapons disturbance in which four unidentified male suspects threatened a male adult victim. One of the suspects reportedly brandished a machete, another a knife, and a third a gun, according to the police.

When another resident entered the house, the suspects drove away from the scene. Five minutes or so later, the suspects came back and opened fire on the house several times.

One of the bullets from the incident entered a second house, hit a mattress while a person was sleeping, and just missed hitting their skull.

Officers located the suspect car in East San Jose, close to Story and King roads, after conducting an investigation. In relation to the incident, officers arrested the driver, Victor Gonzalez, 37, after conducting a “high-risk” enforcement stop.

According to the results of an initial inquiry, the shooting was motivated by gang activity. Two more suspects in the shooting were found by detectives from the department’s Gang Investigations Unit, who also secured search and arrest warrants.

On October 2, a second suspect, Ruben Gonzalez, 34, was taken into custody. Officers executed search warrants at the residences and took 39-year-old Francisco Mercado into custody on January 15.

Police say they discovered two individuals who took a bag out of a house while serving warrants. After apprehending the two, officers discovered that the bag contained guns.

The two, Corrina Namuleg, 38, and Timothy Nelson, 18, were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy and illegal firearm possession.

Eight firearms in all, three of which were privately made, were found in the residences, according to the police. A machete and several rounds of ammo were also found by the officers.

According to authorities, all five suspects were charged with several felonies and put into the Santa Clara County Jail.
