For at least a week, classes have been suspended on the Solano County school campus while workers fix damage from an alleged metal theft.

A copper theft at Solano Widenmann Leadership Academy has “severely damaged” the school’s electrical infrastructure, according to a statement released by the Vallejo City Unified School District on Saturday.

SOLANO WIDENMANN FAMILIES NOTICE: The electrical system at Solano Widenmann Leadership Academy has been seriously damaged by a thief.

According to district officials, repairs should be completed in roughly a week. In the event that the shutdown is prolonged, the district promised to set up “alternate student placements to minimize disruptions.”

The district said in an update Monday afternoon that six schools—Cooperation, Dan Mini, Federal Terrace, Highland, and Patterson Elementary Schools—as well as Loma Vista Environmental Science Academy will operate “alternative learning hubs” for impacted children on Wednesday.

Families are invited to sign up by sending parents and guardians an online form, according to district officials.

Superintendent Rub an Aurelio issued a statement saying, “We are committed to ensuring that our students’ education remains as uninterrupted as possible.” “The dedicated staff at Solano Widenmann Leadership Academy has worked rapidly to prepare learning materials and establish a system that keeps our students engaged during this temporary closure.”

According to the district, families of students enrolled in special education day programs are also being contacted on alternate site arrangements; they will be moved on Tuesday.

Families who have any inquiries are encouraged to get in touch with the district administration or the school.
