BostonAn earthquake that was felt near Boston, Massachusetts on Monday was centered off York Harbor, Maine, according to the US Geological Survey. It was also felt in Rhode Island and New Hampshire, according to a USGS map.

What time was the earthquake today?

The earthquake struck at 10:22 a.m. with a magnitude of 3.8. First recorded at magnitude 4.1, it was later downgraded to magnitude 3.9.

Senior scientist John Ebel of Boston College’s Weston Observatory told WBZ-TV that this earthquake is similar to one that happens once every five years.

The USGS reported that the depth of the earthquake was above eight miles. New England was not at risk of tsunamis, according to the U.S. National Tsunami Warning Center.

Terry Eliasen, executive weather producer for WBZ-TV, clarified that we are not situated on any active fault lines. But once more, [it] is really important for our region.

David Wade, a WBZ-TV anchor who lives just west of Boston, observed, “My house shook pretty good.” It seemed to last for at least five or ten seconds.

When the house started to tremble, Anna Fletcher was working from her Milton home office.

I got up to see what was going on when it shook for about four or five seconds, but by the time I did, everything had stopped and the dog had begun to bark, Fletcher recalled to WBZ-TV. Living in New England makes you think of anything other than an earthquake.

Although there were no immediate indications of damage, the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency said it had received reports of shaking around the state.

The agency advises people to remember to drop, cover, and hang on for safety during an earthquake.

Will there be earthquake aftershocks in Boston?

Ebel asserts that there will undoubtedly be seismically recorded aftershocks.

He stated that those on the North Shore region of Massachusetts, as well as those in coastal New Hampshire and south coastal Maine, will likely experience aftershocks of magnitude 2.8, 3.0, or 3.1.

Parts of Massachusetts felt the effects of a 4.8-magnitude earthquake that struck New Jersey last year.

Earthquake shakes Maine

Audio from York County’s police and fire scanners in Maine documented the immediate reaction to the earthquake.

We have no idea what’s happening. A dispatcher can be heard saying, “We’re getting calls about an explosion from all over town.”

According to someone else, we also experienced a significant shaking at the station.

It’s a terrifying experience, according to York residents.

There was a boom as I was standing here, and then the whole house trembled. I looked up and saw that the lights were swinging, so I grabbed the phone and dialed 911 before rushing outdoors, Cindy McKenna recalled.

According to Gene Raymond, I was vacuuming when the house shook and I heard a noise that sounded like an airplane or truck engine.

Dawn Milbury told me that when a few items fell off my shelf, we actually believed that something had exploded because the building shook.

at Portland, Maine, Nancy Begert was working at an OB/GYN practice when the building started to tremble.

We all glanced at one another, wondering what was going on. Begert clarified, “After it was done, we said, I think that was an earthquake.” Something fell off the desk of one of the girls in another room, but it was undamaged.

Home damage after earthquake

Residents were cautioned by the Maine Emergency Management Agency not to dial 911 unless there was an emergency. They did, however, request that locals inspect their houses for any damage.

After an earthquake, that is the typical course of action. Make sure there are no cracks in your home. “Make sure nothing was damaged if you have a flammable heating source hooked up,” said Nicole Pastana, director of emergency management.
