With another Freeze Warning in effect for much of the San Francisco Bay Area, most residents woke up to still-cold temperatures Tuesday morning.

The interior Central Coast, the Santa Clara Valley, and the southern East Bay hills were under a Freeze Warning from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesday morning, despite the National Weather Service’s forecast for the greater San Francisco Bay Area calling for mostly clear and sunny skies.

For parts of the area, a Freeze Warning and Frost Advisory is in effect Tuesday from 1 AM until 9 AM. Those without access to proper heating and those without shelter will be at risk from the cold.#CAwxpic/HkygvakQpl on Twitter

Over the Monterey Bay region and inland regions distant from the direct coastline, a Frost Advisory has been issued.

On the coast, daytime highs will often be in the high 50s, while inland and around the bay, they will be in the mid- to low 60s. With some interior regions experiencing low 30s temperatures, overnight lows will be in the mid-30s to low 40s.

High pressure is expected to move over the area through Thursday, bringing with it moderate days and cool mornings. By the middle of the week, coastal fog and clouds can reappear and spread into certain valleys.

Due to temperatures in the upper 20s to mid-30s, a Freeze Watch will be in effect for the North Bay interior mountains and valleys, East Bay, Bay Area, South Bay, and Central Coast on Wednesday and Thursday mornings at 1 a.m. For residents without heating and without shelter, the cold will create dangerous situations. On both days, the Freeze Warnings will remain in effect until around 9 a.m.

Starting on Friday, the NWS predicts that a pattern shift will increase the likelihood of rain in the Bay Area this weekend. The North Bay might see up to one inch of rain between Friday and Monday. Sunday and the first part of next week could see more substantial rainfall.

There is growing assurance that a sequence of rain systems starting on Friday will have an impact throughout the North Bay. There is still little confidence in the amount of rain, so stay tuned for forecast updates!ZciurhMHcy’s #CAwxpic.twitter.com
