On Tuesday, Kristi Noem, the secretary of homeland security, took part in an immigration enforcement operation in New York City.
On social media, Noem posted a short video of an arrest.
The secretary is observing civil and criminal enforcement activities in New York, according to people with knowledge of the matter.
The criminal case, according to officials, concerns a Venezuelan gang member who occupied an apartment complex in Aurora, Colorado. In the Bronx, one suspected gang member has been taken into custody.
The Justice Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives are working together to support the Department of Homeland Security’s enforcement activities, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration’s New York office.
Only a few days after receiving Senate confirmation, Noem made her presence for the operations.
Alongside border czar Tom Homan, Noem, the former governor of South Dakota, will be in charge of managing Trump’s immigration crackdown.
After her confirmation, she released a statement saying, “The Trump Administration will once again empower our brave men and women in law enforcement to do their jobs and remove criminal aliens and illegal gangs from our country.”
In addition to providing prompt aid and disaster relief to Americans in need, we will properly equip our law enforcement and intelligence services to identify and stop terrorist threats.
