In order to provide additional information regarding the shooting suspect’s death during a standoff in the city’s South of Market area on Monday, San Francisco police have announced that they will host a virtual town hall meeting the following week.
When officers first arrived on the scene of a shooting at Mission and Ninth streets at approximately 4:55 p.m. Monday, they discovered a guy receiving paramedic treatment for gunshot wounds, according to the police.
Officers discovered the shooting suspect may have been in a nearby building after the victim was transported to a hospital for treatment of his potentially fatal injuries.
Officers encircled the structure and made an effort to persuade the suspect to leave and surrender amicably. “During this contact an officer involved shooting occurred,” police stated in a news release hours after the shooting, citing the suspect’s refusal to comply.
After entering the building, officers discovered the suspect, who was declared dead at the spot. They also located a handgun. The individual’s name has not yet been made public.
Martin Olive, the proprietor of the Vapor Room, a stand-alone cannabis shop on 9th Street, was identified by friends and neighbors as the victim.
The town hall will take place online on Tuesday at 3 p.m. Within 10 days of an officer-involved shooting, San Francisco police are required to convene a town hall meeting.
