Prosecutors in Alameda County found a 24-year-old man guilty of fatally stabbing a father and his son in Hayward in 2022.
When Oscar Arevalo-Baquiax killed Rigoberto Perez, 49, and Rigoberto Perez Jr., 22, he was found guilty of two second-degree murders.
Arevalo-Baquiax and a female companion were at a birthday celebration at Perez’s Hayward apartment on September 24, 2022, according to testimony and evidence given during the trial. According to witness evidence, Arevalo-Baquiax and Perez Jr. got into a furious disagreement at around 4 a.m. regarding the female guest that Arevalo-Baquiax had brought to the party, and both were asked to leave.
As a result, Perez and his son got into a violent altercation. Arevalo-Baquiax returned to the apartment 15 to 30 minutes after leaving the party, took a knife from the kitchen, went into the bedroom where the father and son were still fighting, and stabbed both men to death without warning.
“I just stabbed both Perezes,” Arevalo Baquiax told his female buddy, his hands smeared with blood.
Arevalo-Baquiax faces 32 years to life in state prison, according to the prosecution. On April 24, he is expected to be sentenced.
