Tuesday marks the reopening of a Vallejo school that was closed for more than a week after copper wiring was stolen from the campus.

According to Vallejo City Unified School District authorities, the Widenmann Leadership Academy in Vallejo was left without electricity and unable to conduct courses as a result of the Jan. 25 robbery.

District officials affirmed on Monday that power should be restored in time for Tuesday’s start of classes.

Last week, the campus was closed, but on Wednesday, students were moved to six different school locations to finish their independent study tasks and begin their classes.

“After everything is finished, the cost of repairs, security precautions, and site hardening will exceed $200,000. The financial impact, however, is only one difficulty brought about by this circumstance. “This school year is just the beginning of the strain on a limited district budget,” VCUSD Superintendent Ruben Aurelio stated.

Along with the repairs, personnel put extra security measures in place to try to stop thefts in the future, according to district authorities.
