The driver of an SUV that killed a pedestrian Tuesday morning and then ran away was being sought by Hayward police.

Officers were summoned to the scene of a hit-and-run collision between a pedestrian and an SUV just before seven in the morning at the intersection of Hesperian Boulevard and Sueirro Street.

A 51-year-old Hayward resident was found by officers sleeping in the center median. Despite efforts by medical professionals to save his life, the guy was pronounced dead at the site.

Before the police could come, the SUV’s driver ran away.

The medium-sized, white SUV was last seen traveling south on Hesperian Boulevard from Sueirro Street, according to witnesses.

Please call Hayward Police at (510) 293-7066 if you know anything about this collision or can help with this case.

Police say this is Hayward’s first deadly crash of 2025.
