A surprising incident unfolded in Orange County when a tractor-trailer carrying cattle overturned, causing six cows to escape onto the highway. The accident took place around 6:15 p.m. on Sunday, October 20, near the intersection of I-84 and Route 6 in Deerpark.
According to New York State Trooper Steven Nevel, the driver of the 2006 Kenworth truck, which was hauling cows of various breeds, reported that the vehicle’s brakes failed.
As the truck exited I-84 and attempted to make a left turn onto Route 6, it struck a guide rail and flipped onto its side, spilling the cows onto the road.
Fortunately, the driver sustained only minor injuries in the crash. However, the damaged trailer allowed 15 cows to escape, with six of them still on the loose.
Local authorities and farmers acted quickly to round up most of the cows, but a few remain at large.
